De Beers Diamonds

I chose to research jewelry advertisements, especially those were mentioned in our reading book. I found an advertisement for DeBeers diamonds. Most of them have the same background music, which is "palladio" by Karl Jerkins. The one that I chose depends mainly on action and the background music is great; I love it. I like the actress's way of walking and using her eyes because they are elegant. The things that attract me most after the music are the shadow and light effects. When I looked for public opinion about DeBeers ads, some people liked them and so did I. On the other hand, some people didn't like them because they give the idea that women are shallow and materialistic.

Advertisements all around the globe attempt to lure consumers to buy products. They are ubiquitous; we can find them everywhere in magazine, newspaper, and on billboards. According to a study, an average American sees over 5000 advertisements a day. After this introduction, some questions and thoughts come to mind , such as, “Is advertising deceptive? Does it create insecurity in order to sell goods? Does it cause people to buy thing that they really don’t need?” Over all view on the advertisements, we realize that advertisers use specific methods to target consumers, but these methods are not always successful or ethical. They are trying to increase sales in order to increase the efficiency of the economy.

There are several strategies that the advertisers use. The first one is to make the consumers feel insecure so they overcome it by buying. The second one is by exhibiting perfect individuals wearing the new styles and looking good; therefore, consumers go out and buy products in hopes to reaching perfection. The third one is to show that their product will let the consumer be very popular; for example, a person using deodorant and being recognized as popular, ass we all want to become popular and well-known.

When thinking of advertisements, we realize that there are different sides. On the advertiser’s side, they think they are simply informative. They show change in their ads because they know consumers want to try to fulfill their needs. However, on the public’s side, they think they are persuasive; for example, advertisers connect products with preferred emotions, such as happiness and popularity. One of these products is beer. These commercials often show a man after a hard day’s work enjoying an ice-cold beer to relax him. So, it is a controversial issue.

Some advertisements have negative effects, for example, the negative effects on women. These types of advertisements focus on the women's bodies and represent them as objects. Therefore, men may find easy to abuse or assault them.

Advertisements that are sent through the media are mixed, such as women’s magazines covers telling how to lose weight, and also how to make the perfect ice cream pie. Although many people think that advertisements have a bad effect on the public and influence them to buy things they do not need, consumers still have the choice to buy or not.

The Ipod

For this project, we decided to depict the ipod. These MP3 players developed greatly throughout the years.Although they come in different shapes and sizes, their features are extremely similar. They include a touch-sensitive rotating wheel, an interactive coloronly in white, the newer versions were created thinner and in vibrant colors screen, and a video feature, whereas the older ipods were bulky and produced only in white. The new Nano-Chromatic, for example, can be found in yellow, purple, and blue, among other colors.
Although there were other interactive MP3 players that existed before the ipod, the reason for its spectacular success is its simple, sleek, and fun design.

The use of technology in various fields has been very successful and beneficial that it is even difficult just to imagine our grandparents lives. The importance of technology is seen and enjoyed everywhere. When we talk on the phone, or use the internet, it feels normal to us because we are used to it. In the past, communication was never so easy but today, technology makes life more convenient.
One of the advancements in technology is the iPhone. The history of iPhone began with the order of Steve Jobs to Apple engineers to investigate touch-screens. On September 7, 2005, Apple and Motorola released the ROKR E1, the first mobile phone with iTunes. Jobs was unhappy because he wanted the phone to be designed by Apple. In September 2006, Apple discontinued supporting ROKR and released another version of iTunes. On January 9, 2007, the iPhone attracted media attention. On June 11, 2007 Safari engine was entered on the device. On June 29, 2007, Apple released version 7.3 of iTunes to coincide with the release of the new iPhone.
Major advancement in technology have occured because of the increased scientific research. Therefore, it will contiue to be a major benefit for upcoming generations to continue with the development in technology.

The Disney Channel
Disney Channel is an American Channel, which is marketed for children.  In recent years the diversity of viewers has increased with an older audience. The Channels official website is: DisneyChannel.com.
Disney Channel’s website launched on June1, 2000.  At first, there were two websites for Disney Channel. First one is DisneyChannel.com and the second one is ZoogDisney.com. In 2006 DisneyChannel.com began to use its own video player, and in 2008 they started Disney XD, which is Xtreme Digital. This is a new service of Disney.com that lets members communicate and interact with each other with chat rooms that are limited to selected phrases and the ability to create your own Disney XD page, which are called channels. Identity Theft

Identity Theft

“Sister Used Credit Card and Her Name for Committing Crimes,”[1]Identity Theft Victim's House has Loans Against It, Rented out to Tenants,”[2]Victim of Identity Theft Being Hounded for Back Taxes, Under Suspicion of U.S. Customs Dept.”[3] This kind news have came out more and more frequently since people started to use a new method to purchase things -- Online shopping. Online shopping is the process consumers go through to purchase products or services over the Internet. For example, an online shop, eshop, e-store, internet shop, webshop, webstore, online store, or virtual store, all of them provide a lot of kind of products for people online. People only need to sit in front of their computer and move the mouse in their homes. They can buy almost anything they want. However, nothing is perfect. Purchasing things on internet, people have to risk a danger-- identity theft.

Identity theft is criminal behavior, meaning an imposter uses other person’s name, I.D. number, date of birth, phone number, address, or anything that can make the person unique, even the person’s favorite color, to do something like purchasing, renting, selling, opening account or even committing a crime.  Actually, identity theft had taken place before people started to use the Internet, and this crime has become aggravated because of the growth of online shopping.  When people purchase products on the Internet, they need to fill their personal information along with at least the credit card number on certain sheet.

Although the online store usually attempts to use specific computer programs for security, hackers can break the line of defense and steal whatever information they want.  No matter if the hackers use this personal information by themselves or sell it to other people, the victims face very serious consequences. The worse thing is that the victim usually unaware their identity has been stolen until they discover their loss or receives the summons.  According to statistics, the number of US adult victims of identity theft was 8.4 million in 2007, and their total loss was $49.3 billion.[4] The number represents a huge black hole behind convenience of online shopping. People do need to know how to use one stone to kill two birds, getting all benefits of online shopping and averting the danger of it.

Even though most countries have built systems to help the victims to recover their loss back then do not usually work very well. Therefore, the best policy is protecting ourselves when we purchase productions online. We can take some steps such as the following. First of all, use a strong password. Many people use their phone number or date of birth as password, and it is very danger. A strong password must be created by more complex thinking. Second, do not follow the links you do not know where they go.  In fact, the truly dangerous thing about online shopping has absolutely nothing to with your own computer.”[5] Hackers usually implant viruses into websites. When people connect to these poisoned websites, they download the virus automatically. And then, the personal information will be concealed either by publishing on the Internet or sending it to the hackers. Third, since hackers very often create viruses, what we should do is to renew our anti-virus program version frequently. These are three rudimentary and most important steps to prevent damage from identity theft.

In summary, we need to learn the dark side of online shopping. We admit that to purchase productions on the internet is a revolution of business, and it has a lot of advantages like convenience, saving time, lower prices and so on. If we are oblivious to our traps on the internet and do not take some methods to protect ourselves, however, suffering the consequences will be very critical. Therefore, take the suggestions and your information will be safe. (647)
